On august 9th and 10th I will be at Miller Motorsports Park for the Ford ST Octane Academy. While there I will thrash around Fiesta and Focus STs with hydraulic handbrakes and do unspeakable amounts of obscene driving techniques while demolishing through tires and dino juice at a rate that would make an AMG merc feel hopeless and inadequate. Oh, and I'm driving there from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
So, over 3000 miles of road tripping. Alone. In a Fiesta ST.....Hmmmmm......I should add I have taken off from the 6th to the 13th at work as paid vacation so I'm ready to do some real good road tripping. Motels at my current stops are about 50$ a night for a halfway decent motel with wi-fi so I can do trip updates. Other than that, I'm bringing my Martini striped helmet for the go-karting and track day portion, a cooler full of drinks and snacks and sandwiches, a week's clothes, my laptop, and a sense of adventure. Oh and the usual tire pump, small toolset, hydraulic jack, and extra chargers for things.
More details and plans and updates to come as the day gets closer. If any other Oppos are going to be there on that weekend, let me know and we can do an officially unofficial meetup.
........oh fine, I'll post the obligatory photo.....

Octane academy is only happening in Utah and it's free with anyone who buys a focus ST or Fiesta ST.

This continued uninterrupted for 28 minutes...until the tires melted with pieces flying everywhere. Which was very adequate for me :D
I do want to do one of the ST Academy's with the Fiesta though.

NO! BECAUSE IF YOU DID YOU'D BE SELLING YOUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS TO FIND A WAY TO BE THERE!

If I could sell family members, I'd be so happy.

Best part about the academy - you use THEIR cars, tires, and gas. It's like a rental car that's actually fast to begin with! AND I PAID THE 100$ FOR THE INSURANCE, BITCHES! I can cause up to like 50k in damages and pay nothing.

It's free if it's just the driver. 100ish for the insurance waiver (recommended to buy otherwise if you rip up the tires too much or bang around some bumpers you could pay out of pocket for damages) but over 400$ for the guest pass that only includes the go karting, the hoonigan racing team dinner, and ride alongs during the track portion. To put it another way - you could go to three track days and drive for hours at each for the cost of riding along and doing go karting. Ride alongs are free at most track days BTW. And go-karting is CHEAP.
HOWEVER - the driver can be the person who purchased the ST or any immediate family member/close friend. ANd again, you don't use your own ST.

Finally calmed down. Phew.
Ok that's good to know. My dad's main concern has been thrashing our car so he'd love it. Just wish I could go... ah well. Thanks for the info.

If I were you, I would take I90 rather than I80. Much better drivers roads and scenery, especially on the west side of South Dakota. It may be a bit longer, but in my opinion it is well worth it. Driving through Iowa and then Nebraska is a form of torture that no one should ever have to subject themselves to.

The problem with the I90 route is that it relies on me hopping on a ferry to get to Milwaukee at a cost of like 60$ for a one way ticket. So 120$ so I can drive a greater distance, use more gas, and spend another 4 or 5 hours each way. It's either that or go north from chicago and waste even more time and gas driving through illinois (which I hate. A lot.) I'll find some fun roads in the cornfields to take a break from the highway drone.......Or just hammer down and see how often I can breach 130mph in a fiesta ST.

I had no idea about the ferry. I used to drive frequently from Minneapolis area to Laramie Wyoming. Good luck finding fun roads in Nebraska. At least you can go fast, a lot of the cops there don't care.
Nothing

Congrats! I'm trying to determine when I'll go. It's not too far for me to drive, or it's a really cheap plane ticket ($49 each way on Frontier). Just need to pick my dates and do it.
